Full setup guide for Roblox on Xbox, including Microsoft Family Safety for screen time limits, purchase approvals, and content filters.
โ Xbox has two layers of protection
Xbox console controls (Microsoft Family Safety) and Roblox's own parental controls both apply when your child plays on Xbox. Set up both for complete coverage.
Set Up Microsoft Family Safety First
On your phone or computer, go to account.microsoft.com/family and sign in with your Microsoft account. Click "Add a family member" and enter your child's Microsoft/Xbox account email. If your child doesn't have one, create a child account here โ Microsoft will automatically apply child-appropriate defaults.
Sign Into Xbox with Your Child's Account
On the Xbox console, make sure your child is signed in with their own Xbox profile โ not yours. Go to Settings > Account > Sign-in, security & passkey. Each family member should have their own profile. Never share your account with your child.
Configure Xbox Privacy & Online Safety
On the Xbox, go to Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy. Select your child's profile. Set "Child defaults" as your starting point, then customize: set Communications & multiplayer to "Friends," turn off voice messaging, restrict content based on age rating (set to "Child" for under-12 or "Teen" for 12-15).
Link Your Roblox Parent Account
Open Roblox on the Xbox while signed in as your child. Navigate to Settings > Parental Controls and tap "Link Parent Account." Enter your parent Roblox account email. You'll receive a confirmation email โ approve from your email to complete the link.
Set Roblox Content & Chat Settings
From your parent Roblox account (on your phone), go to Settings > Parental Controls > select your child's account. Set content maturity to Minimal (ages 5-8) or Mild (ages 9-12). Set chat to Friends Only or Off. Set a monthly Robux spending limit.
Set Xbox Screen Time Limits
Download the Microsoft Family Safety app on your phone (free, iOS and Android). Open the app, select your child, and tap Screen time. Set daily limits by day of week โ for example, 1 hour on school days and 2 hours on weekends. The Xbox console will automatically lock when the limit is reached.
Require Approval for All Purchases
In the Microsoft Family Safety app, select your child > Spending > toggle "Needs approval for purchases." This applies to the Microsoft Store AND Robux purchases made through Xbox. Every purchase will send you an approval request on your phone before it goes through.
Enable Xbox Content Filters
On the Xbox, go to Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > App & game content. Set the content rating filter to match your child's age. This prevents games rated above the threshold from being installed or launched โ even if already downloaded.
Review Weekly Reports
The Microsoft Family Safety app sends weekly activity reports showing how long your child played, which games they played, and any purchase requests. Check these weekly and use them as a conversation starter with your child about their gaming habits.
