In April 2026, Roblox announced two new age-based account types: Roblox Kids (ages 5-8) and Roblox Select (ages 9-15). These launched in June 2026 and represent the biggest change to Roblox's safety system in years. Here's what parents need to know.
Roblox Kids Accounts (Ages 5-8)
- โContent: Restricted to "Minimal" maturity games only โ a curated catalog reviewed by Roblox
- โChat: All direct messaging disabled by default
- โFriends: Friend requests are highly restricted
- โAssignment: Automatic for age-verified 5-8 accounts
Roblox Select Accounts (Ages 9-15)
- โContent: Access to Minimal, Mild, or Moderate maturity games in Roblox's curated catalog
- โChat: Direct messaging defaults to Friends Only
- โVoice chat: Not available
- โAssignment: Automatic based on age verification
What Parents Still Need to Do
Even with these new accounts, you should still: link your parent account for remote management, set a spending limit, configure screen time limits, and educate your child about online safety. These accounts are a safety floor, not a complete solution.
