Roblox’s parental controls are genuinely good — the problem is they’re off or half-configured on most kids’ accounts. This is the exact sequence to lock things down in about ten minutes, no extra apps required. Do it once and add the Parent PIN so it stays that way.
Before You Start: Two Things You Need
- ✓Your child’s Roblox login (so you can confirm their real birthdate is set).
- ✓Your own email or phone number to attach as the parent contact.
Do this on a computer or in the mobile app while signed in to your child’s account. Some options only appear once a parent account is linked.
Step 1 — Confirm the Birthdate
Open Settings and check the age. If your child entered a fake older age, the child-safety defaults are switched off. Correcting the birthdate to their real age re-enables the automatic protections Roblox applies to younger users.
Step 2 — Link a Parent Account
In the Parental Controls section, add yourself as the parent or guardian using your own email. This gives you a dashboard where you can view and lock the settings below, and it’s required for the Parent PIN.
Step 3 — Set Content Maturity
Choose the maturity level that matches your child’s age — Minimal or Mild for younger kids. Games above that level simply won’t load, which quietly removes most of the content you’d worry about.
Maturity labels (Minimal, Mild, Moderate, Restricted) are Roblox’s version of age ratings. For under-10s, Minimal is the safe default.
Step 4 — Manage Chat and Contact
- ✓Who can chat with them: set to Friends or No One for younger children.
- ✓Who can message them: Friends or No One.
- ✓Voice chat: leave off unless your child is a teen and you’ve discussed it.
Step 5 — Set a Spending Limit
Add a monthly spend cap under the parental controls. Setting it to $0 means no purchases happen without you deliberately changing it. If you want to give an allowance, a Roblox gift card is safer than a saved credit card because it can’t overspend.

Step 6 — Turn On the Parent PIN
This is the step people skip — and it’s the one that makes everything stick. The Parent PIN (also called Account PIN) locks your settings so they can’t be changed back without your four-digit code. Without it, a determined kid can undo everything in thirty seconds.
No Parent PIN = no real controls. Set it last, after everything else is configured the way you want.

Step 7 — Turn On Purchase Notifications
Enable email or push notifications for purchases so you get a receipt for every transaction. It’s the fastest way to catch an accidental Robux spend or a game that’s nudging kids to buy.
