Playing Roblox on Xbox adds a layer most parents miss: Xbox has its own privacy and online safety settings that sit on top of Roblox’s. Get both right and your child’s Xbox Roblox experience is genuinely locked down. Here’s how.
Step 1 — Put Your Child on a Child Account
Make sure your child signs in with their own child account under your Microsoft family group — not the adult profile. Only a child account gets the guardian-managed privacy and safety settings below.
Step 2 — Set Xbox Privacy & Online Safety
Go to Settings → Account → Privacy & online safety → Xbox privacy (or manage it at xbox.com or in the Xbox Family Settings app). The settings that matter most for Roblox:
- ✓You can communicate with — set to Friends for younger kids, so strangers can’t voice or message them.
- ✓Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites — restrict to Friends.
- ✓You can join multiplayer games / cross-network play — allow, but paired with the communication limits above.
- ✓You can see and upload community creations — restrict for younger children.
Step 3 — Microsoft Family Safety (Time & Spending)
In the Microsoft Family Safety app you can set screen-time limits for the Xbox, require approval for purchases, and get activity reports — covering the time and money side that Roblox’s in-app limits complement.
Step 4 — Don’t Forget Roblox’s Own Settings
Xbox controls who your child can talk to at the console level, but Roblox’s account settings — content maturity, in-experience chat, and spending — apply on top and follow them to any device. Set Content Maturity to Minimal/Mild, restrict chat, add a spend limit, and lock it with a Parent PIN.
Xbox privacy settings and Roblox settings are separate systems. A child restricted on Xbox can still have open chat inside Roblox if the Roblox account isn’t set too — always configure both.
