Roblox doesn’t use a single age rating like a movie or a boxed game — instead, each experience carries a “content maturity” label, and your account’s maturity setting decides which ones load. Once you understand the four levels, you can lock the platform to exactly what’s right for your child in about a minute.
The Four Content Maturity Levels
- ✓Minimal — mild, cartoonish content only; suitable for the youngest players. No realistic violence, no scary themes, no unmoderated social hangouts.
- ✓Mild — a little more, such as light combat or mild fear (think cartoon blasters); fine for most primary-age kids.
- ✓Moderate — more intense themes, stronger combat, some crude humor; aimed at older kids and tweens.
- ✓Restricted — the most mature content Roblox allows, including stronger violence and more unfiltered social spaces; intended for 17+.
Setting your child’s maturity to Minimal or Mild doesn’t just hide higher-rated games — it stops them from loading at all. It’s one of the most effective single settings you can change.
How This Compares to ESRB and PEGI
Console and PC games use ESRB (US) or PEGI (Europe) ratings assigned by a board. Roblox is different because experiences are user-made and constantly changing, so it relies on a mix of creator questionnaires and automated review to assign maturity. It’s roughly analogous — Minimal/Mild ≈ E (Everyone), Moderate ≈ T (Teen), Restricted ≈ M (Mature) — but think of it as a guardrail, not a guarantee.
Which Level Should You Set?
- ✓Under 9: Minimal.
- ✓Ages 9–12: Mild (Moderate only if you’ve reviewed what they play).
- ✓Teens 13+: Moderate, with conversations rather than hard blocks.
Maturity is tied to your child’s account age. If the birthdate is set older than they really are, higher levels unlock automatically — check it first.
Lock It So It Sticks
After setting maturity, turn on the Parent PIN so it can’t be raised without your code. Without the PIN, the setting is a suggestion, not a lock.

Bottom line
Set Minimal/Mild + PIN
Roblox’s maturity labels are your main content filter. Match the level to your child’s age, keep the birthdate accurate, and lock it with a Parent PIN — that combination controls the vast majority of what they can access.
