Are Roblox Groups Safe for Kids? A Parent’s Guide to Groups & Clans

Roblox groups — sometimes called clans, guilds, or crews depending on the game — let players organize around a shared interest, game, or friend circle. Most are harmless. Some are set up specifically to move kids off Roblox and into less-moderated spaces. Here’s how to tell the difference.

What Roblox Groups Are

A group is essentially a club within Roblox: it has members, roles or ranks, and often its own wall or shout feature where members can post. Groups can be created by anyone, from a handful of real-life friends to large open communities with thousands of strangers.

The Risks

  • ✓Some group descriptions push members to "join our Discord for more" — moving the conversation to a space Roblox doesn’t moderate.
  • ✓Certain groups tie rank or status to trading activity or spending Robux, which can pressure kids into purchases or trades to "level up".
  • ✓Large, open-join groups mean your child may be added to a shared space with hundreds of strangers, with a group chat or wall that isn’t limited to friends.
  • ✓Some scam attempts are dressed up as group "recruiting" — promising free Robux, items, or a role in exchange for account details.

Good Signs vs. Red Flags

  • ✓Good sign: the group is small and made up of people your child actually knows, like a class or friend group.
  • ✓Good sign: you, as the parent, know who created or admins the group.
  • ✓Red flag: the group description or shout regularly links out to Discord, Telegram, or other outside platforms.
  • ✓Red flag: joining requires "verifying" an account — a common cover for asking a child to hand over login details.
  • ✓Red flag: the group promises free Robux, items, or currency just for joining or inviting others.

What to Do Before Your Child Joins a New Group

Have your child show you the group page before joining anything beyond their existing friend circle. Check the description, the member count, and whether it’s pushing toward outside platforms. When in doubt, it’s fine to say no — group membership isn’t required to enjoy Roblox.

No legitimate Roblox group ever needs your child’s password to "verify" membership. That request is always a scam, full stop.
